Soil physical and chemical properties and plant nutrients of Camellia semiserrata forest in
Zhangmutou forest farm of Dongguan were investigated and analyzed with sample-plot investigation method.
The results showed that soil bulk density increased with soil depth, and non-capillary porosity and aeration
decreased with soil depth. The natural moisture content of soil is 18.5%, the bulk density is 1.441 g · cm-3, and
the total porosity is 39.76%. The soil pH value is 4.42. The grade of organic matter, total N, alkali hydrolyzed N,
available P and available K are 3, 2, 4, 6 and 4, respectively. The content of soil organic matter is high, the fertility
of alkali hydrolyzed N and available K is low, and the available P is extremely deficient. The organic C content
in leaves is 491.7 g · kg-1, the average contents of total N, total P and total K were 15.61, 0.51 and 5.06 g · kg-1,
respectively. The leaf C:N= 31.5:1, C:P=964:1, N:P=30.6:1, and the leaf P content was extremely low, indicating
that the growth of C. semiserrata stand was mainly restricted by P. Therefore, in order to promote the healthygrowth of the stand and improve the seed setting ability, the C. semiserrata stand land needs appropriate tending
management to improve the soil physical properties, and balanced application of N, P, K fertilizers.
